One of the pinnacles of my career was playing at The Blue Moon Dueling Piano Bar in West Des Moines, Iowa. The venue may be gone now, but the memories? Theyâre eternal.
For almost six years straight, I played there two weeks a month, every New Yearâs weekend, like I was living there part-time. And in a lot of ways, I was.

Thursday nights were wild. After the show? We’d hit Shotgun Bettyâs or Tonic in the West Glen Town Center to celebrate before going back at it Friday and Saturday.

7 PM to 2 AM.
Wall-to-wall requests.
People dancing on the floor and screaming from the mezzanine.
Fight song battles between Nebraska, Iowa, and Iowa State.

The talent that passed through that room? Legendary.
