Two Cosmic Peas in a Far-Out Pod
The Wildest Dueling Pianos Duo in the Nation
Meet Papi & PJ – the fearless founders of Big Ivory Ticklers, a dueling pianos experience that blends music, comedy, and chaos into one unforgettable night. Together, this duo, has built one of the most highly rated dueling pianos tours in the country, with shows selling out from the Rockies to the West Coast, and now stretching to Florida and beyond.
What Make's Big Ivory Tickler's Dueling Pianos Special?
Big Ivory Tickler’s isn’t your average dueling pianos act – it’s a high-octane, crowd-fueled live show built by nationally touring performers and former stage comedians Born in the Rockies and grown in Colorado, Big Ivory Ticklers delivers a one-of-a-kind blend of wild piano battles, comedy, crowd anthems, and unpredictable energy. From sold-out theatres to brewery patios and casinos across the West, our show turns every night into a party – and no two are ever the same.

The Story of Papi: From Stand-Up to Standout
Founder Papi Sorrels kicked off his dueling pianos journey in 1999 with 30 days of piano lessons and a one-way ticket to Rumbay in Colorado Springs. What began as a crash course in chords quickly became a full-time mission to reinvent the piano show experience. In 2005, he launched Big Ivory Ticklers, and by 2006, it had already earned “Best of 2006” from the Colorado Springs Independent.
Papi has since taken his high-voltage entertainment style to all 50 states, across the Caribbean, and even to Amsterdam—becoming the first dueling piano player known to complete a 50-state performance run. Along the way, he’s learned what makes a crowd come alive—and what most shows are missing: real personality, real punch, and a whole lot of soul.
Enter PJ: Marine-Tested, Music Obsessed
In 2023, Papi leveled up the mission by bringing on PJ Gartrell—a fellow dueling pianos veteran, former U.S. Marine, and long-time star from Howl at the Moon. Now serving as Regional Entertainment Director, PJ brings 20+ years of live performance experience and a reputation as one of the most versatile multi-instrumentalists in the business.
From piano and drums to guitar, bass, and vocals, PJ’s performances are electric, often swapping instruments mid-song while keeping the crowd on their feet. His artistic leadership has been crucial in helping Big Ivory Ticklers scale into a touring powerhouse, without losing the raw connection and spontaneous fun that set them apart.
